JANIE GEISER is a visual/theater director and film-maker who has been working in puppet theater since 1981. She has created seventeen original works, both with her former Atlanta-based Jottay Theater (1981-1990), and, more recently with Janie Geiser & Co., an ephemeral ensemble for New York actors and puppeteers. Geiser is the recipient of a 1989 OBIE, 1987 and 1995 Bessie awards and a 1992 Guggenheim Fellowship. Geiser has also received funding from New York State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, Art Matters, the New York Foundation for the Arts, The Henson Foundation and the Jerome Foundation. Her film The Red Book was shown as part of the 1996 New Directors/New Films Series at the Museum of Modern Art, and her short film The Secret Story will be shown in the 1996 New York Film Festival in October. She is currently collaborating with Mac Wellman and Travis Preston on Wellmanıs new play Infrared. Evidence of Floods was originally commissioned by the First Light program of Dance Theater Workshop with funds provided by the Candy Jernigan Memorial Fund and the Joyce Mertz-Gilmore Foundation of New York City and by the Arts Festival of Atlanta.
